Anyone familiar with Honda CB's?

Post by megaloxana »

I think I might pick one up this weekend as I've been planning to build a cafe racer for a while. I've come across a pretty good opportunity at getting a bike for cheap.
Here are my choices:
CB175
CB350
CB350F
CB360
CB450
CB500T
CB650
CB750
There are also some:
Yamaha XS400, 500vision, 650 Maxium, seca, 750 triples, 750 and 920 Virago
AND
Suzuki T20,T250, GT250, GT380, GS550

I don't really know much about these bikes besides the research I've been doing for the past few days. My roommate has a CB750 that I've been helping him build. It's turning into a really fun bike, so the 750 is probably the one I'll pick up. But the smaller ones like the 450 look to be fun as hell.

Any input fellas?

the 360T's are fun little bikes, the 400 hawks are fun too.

if you can find a DOHC one GET IT! the 750 DOHC is way nicer than the SOHC!

head, lots more oomph woithout noticable MPG drop.

DO NOT GET A XZ550 VISION.

Money Pits.

had one, rode great, when it ran, they have the worst charging system ever, makes an FZR's look incredibly reliable. In 6 months I replaced a stator, 2 vr's and a CDI because one of those kept failing and taking other stuff out with it.

My first bike was a 78 CB 550/4. I owned that in the mid 1980's. Loved that bike, I put short handle bars and kerker headers on that puppy, and it would move. They polish up very nice.
Tip: don't ArmourAll the seats you tend to slide off. :tard: Sounds like a fun project!

Mine looked like this one:

My dad has a '78 CB750K...the bike I learned on actually. It's a blast to ride and I still have the intention of turning it into a full cafe.

Yeah it was the scrambler.Thats not the one I had,but looked just like it.I bought it off my buddies dad for $100 bucks and road it for quite awhile untill it blew a hole in the top of the #2 piston the size of a quarter.

The pipes were cool but would burn the hell out of my leg on them.Still have the scars 12 years later...

Ah that brings back good times!! I bought mine when I was in grade 11, for $550.00. I had never rode a street bike before until then. Rode it home that day on the way from school, that was scary., but I'm here to tell. The obsession started from then.
