The best race so far!!!

Well it really did happen. Ive got through the whole day without a problem. Didnt even get out the tool box!!

Pratice:: There was no qually at this round[dont know why?]
But anyway I was running 12th in the championship so thats were I started on the grid. The bike was really hauling arse, & all the geomitry changes WORKED! The thing handles really well, hold its line, in a word GREAT. So that was all good. As you can see by my lap times, Im 3 sec a lap faster than the same time last race at OP in October.
The extra HP didnt go unnoticed either.

Race 1
Got away to a good [but safe start] & had a blinder of a race, couldnt put a foot wrong. I was really happy with the bike, but in the back of my mind, wondering when it was gonna break down. Looked up & they were holding my number out & a 10 sec penalty WTF!
Got pipped for a jumped start . Thet put me back to 14th but I finshed 5th. Oh well you gotta take your lumps I suppose?

Race 2

Uneventfull race, just really have a good go, because the bike felt so good I could really enjoy the race.

Race 3
Another good start, again 3rd into turn 2 but I was really getting tired & couldnt keep pace with the A & B graders & slipped back a couple spots.
But overall I was really happy. Im getting faster so thats good. My times are dropping every race. & the bike is getting better all the time. The old feelings are comming back..So I come away a very happy 52 year old boy!!

Awsume Steve
im sure you got more guys at the lead end of the pensil over there.
Great lap time improvement. If I could find three secs I would be stoked.

New horsepower figure on mine is 144.3 and we had it doing 147 but lost to much mid range so drop a jet size and up a needle.
it was on the danger side lean at 7thou.
We will try to get the 147 back when my new slides arrive with hole size experiments on old slides.

Keep it up.
Ps we got a new rookie who is ex drag champ UK and he has built a 1300gsxr with modified jugs to get the big bores in.
It all in a gsxr750 body 7/11
He is running busa conrods with a 10mm spacer at the base gasket.
170+rear wheel ponies.
When he learns how to go around corners my glory days are over.

I can pretty must say that the time improvement was put down to handling. The steeper rake & shorter trail & wheel base have transformed this bike. The power was good, but I dont think for a minute it helped with the 3 sec drop in times.
Oran Park is a real handling track, power is not a big deal there. Thats why the little 400s can hussle us bigtime around there. We blast em on the stright, but they hammer us for the rest of the lap.

Ha Steve
You guys love to share the same corner.
I try going around first at turn one.
That seems to leave me lots of room.

Yeah! everyone trys the outside line but can never pull it off. I was running 3rd when the pic was taken & we 3 were single file. But its worth a try if you can pull it off because it give you the inside for the next corner which is a right hander. But you have to out drag the FZR to that corner, & no one can do that!!!! he he he

The open bottom fairing is because it would be a bit of a danger if the pan filled with oil & covered the exup. It would burts into flames & they think its the best of both evils not to have a fried rider.. Im only racing in club rounds, once I run in a National meeting I will have to have a pan which Im working on now..

Outside line in turn one can end in tears if somone bins their bike and takes you down with them.
Qualify on pole is the better option.

We have no belly pan requirement in New Zealand.
Engine breather into catch bottle along with carb overflows.
Engine breather into airbox is not accepted.
