MCRARacing.com is hosting the 2nd Track Day at Gateway International on Saturday, June 6th.
Everyone needs to harass Doug (Haunter) until he decides to go. I will pay for his hotel stay...
They have a class that is perfect for anyone (Test the Track, Novice, Intermediate and Expert). They don't just throw you out there with racers and say 'good luck' like some Track Days. This is a very well organized event. There are pre-track day meetings in the morning, so they can explain what to expect out there.
Let me know if you have any questions. I will be there with a couple of friends. If you just want to watch, you're more than welcome. Many of the top local racers are there as well as Jason Quillman who is racing AMA this year.
Hope to see you there!

hahahahah
Just can't justify dropping the cash at the moment.
the way things are going.......I'm pretty tempted to get a race cage for the SV and bring it. Its got racetech front forks and I have a revavled respring 04 gsxr1k shock for it too.
thow a used chin on her take off the upper....its very tempting. dunno, the FZR bodywork is half painted......

I'm teling you, Doug - you will not need any of that stuff unless you go racing in Intermediate, along some crazed eyed freak riding a GSXR. Save your coin. The best bang for your buck would be braided brake lines - if you don't already have them. Maybe some frame sliders if you forget to put your kickstand down.
You might want to come to the June 6th one and just run the "Test the Track". It's only $30 and will give you a real good feel for the track without any possibility of trashing the bike. I'm serious about the hotel room. The only real expense will be gas coming down to St. Louis and it's still relatively cheap. Plus, we have a really good time.
Then in August, you can come down for the full day event in the Novice class.
My friend Steve will be there running novice on his FZ6 - great guy.

WHAT A BLAST!!!
Had a really good turnout since CCS is racing on Sunday. The Intermediate class was overfilled with about 40 riders, so that kept the blood churning.
There were quite a few wrecks and I would say that most were in the Intermediate Group. One guy laid sqaure on his faceshield motionless for several minutes - not sure if he was ok, but he just came out of the hairpin, so he couldn't have been going to quick. Another guy dropped his beautiful condition 1998 Ducati Supersport 900. I was almost run off the track by another riding going way too wide for the speed he was running - ticked me off severly!! Then on my last session, in order to avoid hit a downed rider a couple spots in front of me, I had to take the grass route, then into an asphalt area with light gravel on top - not safe...
Anyway, all is well, bike didn't go down. I need new toe sliders and new knee pucks, so it was a very good day. Hopefully soon, I'll have some pics to post up. Might have to invest in some rearsets to get my feet higher. Even hanging off the bike as far as I was, I was still dragging my toe and knee at the same time.

As funny as that sounds... no. But, the tighest/fastest corners (1 & 7) are left handers at Gateway. My left puck is almost gone and my right puck is still close to half there... Turn 6, the decreasing radius, is really the only place to get down your right knee down.
Had a great time. My form still needs improvement, but I need to start working out as I'm tiring quickly. This time it was more upper body strength that I needed.
You have got to get to a Track Day this year, Duane. It is so much fun! Wish I were younger!

I'm all for the s quid jokes, but the GSXR is really at home at the track. I was passing at least 90% of them out there. The other 10% weren't necessarily better, I just didn't make it around to them in time...
If you do plan a Track Day, a good front brake set-up is required. You need to be able to stop on a dime.
Speed - at Gateway, you don't really need top speed. There are a ton of R1s, GSXR1000s, etc... and they might pass you in the straights - might not (which is really sad). You have to pass them in the corners. And once you do, chances are real good they won't pass you back. Most of these riders don't trust their bikes, tires, etc...
See the guys in the orange shirts? Racer Licensing guys - passed them all day. They're like weaving through orange cones cause they're all over the track.
