Barry Sheene race 1

Post by sbutler »

Well I had a shit of a day! Went out on qualifying & the set up changes we made last night worked a treat. Did a 150.13 which put me 15th on the grid of 49!! I was happy..
Went out for the first race, got an alright start, not great. Went from 15th to 12th. Then I was just sorting things out & we were red flagged.

Restart:: got a blinder 15th to 7th!! by turn 2 & I was hunting for postions. Then all of a sudden the bloody thing drops onto 3 again!! For christ sake what now. Pulled into the pits. Started looking for things that could be wrong, first we saw a kink in one of the fuel hoses, then we found the pump had come off its mounting?? god know how that happend? THEN we had the fuel filters full of water again. So in the prosess of fixing them I broke the end off the fuel pump. We were screwed, bigtime! banghead
Then Rob said, I have a couple of Honda VFR pumps here, that'll work. So away we went grafting a VFR fuel pump onto an FZR So you could imagain all the wires & plugs are different. But in the end we got it running, we hope. Because we changed so much stuff, we really didnt know what or if we fixed anything. We'll find out tomorrow. Ive got to start from rear of grid, so its gonna be a shitfight to move forward safely. But these thing happen. Im sure in the race I would have got into the high 1.40s.
So we hope we live to fight another day..Dissapointed isnt the word. When it was going it was really going. I just hope we have to sorted this fuel issue out once & for all.
So that was my day, the guy that got air lifted out is ok from what I know, which is good.

Thats poo.bike looks hot though.I look at every night.Good luck tomorrow.Big fields. We have max 40 at taupo international and 35 at Manfield. Some guys miss out all together and get shunted to clubmans.im entered in postclassic and formula 1 this year.My times are quick enough to qualify arround 25 in dry and 15th in wet in formula one.We have a tendency to drop out of the second class if our qualify result drops a formula one rider off the grid since its our second class entry. The grid position stays unfilled but the unqualified guy gets to start off the rear of the grid in order of the results.Eg two pull out and qualifier 36 and 37 get to enter. We use the F1 as practice session before our own qualifing session.

GOOD LUCK.Remember to hold your head with slower bikes in front.Dont get taken down pushing an outside line at turn one just trying to gain a spot or two.
And watch the bikes that swerve and dice when you lay down that big torque off the line.

Cheers Steve

Good to see your thinking straight.
I would be affraid of messing that paint.
I think mine would have been the fifth fastest straight line last year.Z1000 with 1260 kit and 30k motor (Shawn Donely) would have been the quickest,FZR1070 wisco next,gs1000 (pushed conrod through motor last year) then gsxr1100 in forth. The fzr would be the best handler of the large bikes though and i gained under brakes as i have cast discs and full brake rebuild.
I have 10 extra horse .140 rear wheel now so hope to hold onto them on straights then out corner and brake them this year.
The guys that run at the front run mid pack in the wet so thats where i gained ground last year.We only had one wet meet as the other one flooded out.
It ended up cost me the gold as i ended up 2nd by only one point.

Rubber down take care.
