I parked my bike yesterday. Went to start this morning. Push starter switch, bike says "clunk". I say, huh? Push starter switch again bike turns over and then says
"clunk". Bought a new battery...same thing. Rocked it back and forth in gear...same thing. Bike is not happy. Neither is owner. I'm thinkin' starter clutch.
Any ideas from you tried and true vets out there? Have not tried to push start it yet. Could it be electrical in nature?
Thanx for your help,

Sounds to me like it's the starter. I think It's not to hard to rebuild for anyone who works on old bikes. I would pull the starter and see what's going on in there. Check the brushes they are probably worn, not making good contact. I would stay away from the really cheap starter rebuid kits from eBay. I have bad luck, wrong parts and such. Good luck, if you have a YouTube account post a video and share it if you want.

I should mention while you do this you'll need to pull starter gear cover, inspect everything before taking the starter apart.
