I am currently building/restoring a classic, back and beyond it`s glory days. My plan are to run this bike in the Norwegian cup called Formula 80-87.
It all started with my brother. He has always been a classic nut and i have always been in to the new stuff. One day he bought a Suzuki 1100 and he got a beat up, stolen, crashed and stripped Fzr 1000 Genesis in on the deal. He asked me several times if i wanted to restore it, but i always said no. I was to busy with the more recent bikes. I ride a Suzuki Gsxr 1000 in the Norwegian Rookie 1000 cup. My brother then bought a Cbr 1000 05 to join in and i taught, why not restore the Fzr and join him in the classic cup. Then we can ride together all summer long.
This is a picture of what it looked like when i got it.
I stripped the bike down. And when i say stripped, i mean every single nut, bolt, gasket, wire and bearings.
The plan is to glass blast everything and get the frame and rims powder coated. The rest of the part will be spray painted in my garage. The fairings will be red and white "locktite" style.
Before glass blasting i modified the sub frame and fairing stay. I trimmed of all brackets and stuff that i didn`t need. The sub frame was shortened with almost 20 cm and a new support was welded in place.
All bearings was removed and i was ready to blast of several coates of paint and dirt. 10 hours later and a arm that felt like it was gonna fall of, everything was ready for paint.
I got a good deal on the paint an only paid 2000 Nok. Its about 200 £. It only took 2 days and i was realy impressed by the work and the color. (The pictures dont`t show the glitter in the grey on the frame. Its like a metallic silver)
When i got back to my garage, i started with installing new bearings in the rims, swingarm and rear shock link system. Then one night i got a bright idea. I went down in the garage and picked up all the plastic parts (rear fender, battery box, chain slide) and washed them in my kitchen sink. Well, the parts got clean, but my kitchen got dirty (I am single of course.)
The next thing on my list, was to modify the rear shock. I got a used GsxR 750 2007 model from a buddy. It measures 20 mm longer than the stock shock, but next year i am gonna use a 17 " rear rim, and then i need a higher ride height in the back. We made 2 spacers for the top mount and drilled the bottom up from 10 to 12 mm. And it fits snuggly in under the battery box with 1-2 mm clearance.
New sprocket and brake disc for the rear has arrived and mounted.
The next project was to modify the 2008 Yamaha R1 rearsets i got form Ebay. I had no idea if they would fit, but i have acsess to a water jet, so i took the chance. I only had to relocate two holes and shorten in the brackets to make em fit. Its all good.
Now it was time to make something new. I designed a new dashboard in stainless steel in the water jet. It looks like it belong in a boat, but i hope it will look cooler when i am done laser etching in alle the lettering.
I finally got the needed parts for the forks, brake discs and i made a new spacer instead of the speedo thing.
I painted the fork legs and brake discs before assembly.
So now i have a rolling chassie. Still a lot to do. Just started painting the brakes. Gonna clear coat them later tonight.
