Weak Trannys?

So i recall reading about the transmissions on FZR1k's being weak, and that there is a 6 speed swap, does this make them stronger at the same time of gaining a 6th gear? I ask because I am building a Mini Buggy that will be powered by a FZR1k I have at home and aam begining to wonder if I should just find a different bike to power it.

ALL sport bike trannies are 'weak'....

If 'weak' means they won't take much ham-footed shifting.

ALL motorcyles have 2nd gear issues. This is a rider fault rather than an engineering one.

There are plenty of FZR engines (6's and 1k's) powering mini-sprint cars/legend cars..make your buggy..you wont' find a stronger one-unless you get back into 70's/early 80's air cooled UJM engines.

Agreed

Can't agree more actually.

The YZF750 transmission IIRC drop in, but you need all the parts including the oil spray bar. Bear in mind this swap entails tearing the engine down to bare cases - there is no easy way of doing this.

The swap? Do that on your own feeling. That motor makes enough torque and power that would not yield a need for the extra gear. That's probably why it's a 5 speed and not six. I've never had the feeling that my bike needed a 6th gear if that makes you feel any better.
