Hi!

I would like to replace the alternator bearing in my fzr 1000 genesis (1988) and I've got a problem: there is an alternator drive shaft that I should to remove with bearing. So heare is my question: can I knock out the shaft with bearing at once? Or maybe before I must to remove starter idle gears ?

Thanks!

Hi,
that may be more drama than you think if the bearing was that loose in the casing it may not be small enough now to hold the new bearing tightly and stop it chafing the case bigger still.
In theory you should put a bearing in the freezer (suitably wrapped in plastic) to get it in the case if not then a little nail polish from a lady friend will help lock it in -place and stop it gauling the case.

Hi !
There is everything OK, I've install new bearing today :)
Now I would like to take off valve cover ( I must replace that rubber gasket). Is it necessary to take off the radiator, and radiator hoses to do that? So far I've take off the carburators...

W,
no you can just undo the radiator and let it hang on the hoses it really depends on how big your hands are and how much room you have at that point. My hands are long so i could just manage it (not without a few grazes though :-(

the bearing you put in was a good push fit?

yes, the bearing was a good push fit.

about valve cover - im affraid that my hands are too big to remove valve cover without removing radiator - but i will try tommorow.

thanks Y_G!
