I'm working on a '88 FZR1000 engine. I honed the cylinders a bit and just pulled the rings out and DAMN...the endgap looks too wide and I don't have the spec at my finger tips.
I'm fairly certain it's .040" for top and second and .060" for oil....which means I'm in the market for a complete set of rings.
I also have a spare crankshaft with connecting rods and bearings in great condition for sale if anyone needs. The PO didn't need to buy one of those! I wish he would have bought a set of rings though

According to my specs you're not even close...unless of course you meant mm and not thousanths of an inch. My sourced specs are as follows for an 88' 1000 FZR US model in thousanths of an inch ...(top ring .006" - .012"...second ring .008" - .014"...and oil ring .008" - .028") Of course in MM that would be (top ring 0.15 - 0.30 ...second ring 0.20 - 0.35....oil ring 0.20 - 0.70) . Cheers.

Mike - are you measuring with the rings IN the bore, or sitting on the bench?

rings are IN the cylinder bore...
but the jugs are sitting on the bench
I was standing on the floor!
and yes, that is inches unfortunately, and regardless I'm about 98% sure I need new ones! I believe the .040" was maximum gap but I could EASILY have looked at the mm spec too for a similar engine.
And since you have the file open, what is the max allowable bore? I suspect 75.1mm using interpolation from an FZ700 book.

Bore diameter specs are 75.000-75.005 mm..that's 2.9528-2.9529 inches.
Bore measuring point is 40mm or 1.57" from top of cylinder
Taper and out of round limit is 0.05mm or .002"

Sorry. I was looking for the wear limit, not the spec.
