I am looking for a speedo drive for the '91 FZR1000 (3GM), however I'm having a bit trouble finding a speedo drive here in Denmark. It seems that no retailer has a speedo drive for my bike, so I'm now looking on eBay etc. It's difficult finding a speedo drive that fits my bike, as almost all listed drives are for FZR750 and 600.
Going through the forum, I've read some posts about people that are/were in the same boat as me... As far as I understand from those posts, the speedo drives (or some) for the 750 and 600 will fit the 1000 too – is that correct?
Also, do any of you know of a retailer in the UK that sells speedo drives for the FZR1000? If so, I'd appreciate if you'd post them. I've found one on a German site that would fit my bike, but P&P costs as much as the speedo drive itself: http://www.teilweise-motorrad.de/gebrau ... kid~1.html – but if that's the only place I can get one, then so be it.

Re: FZR1000 speedo drive
Moo,
Mechanical speedo drives come in two types Honda & the rest of the Japanese manufacturers.
What is different is the gear ratio inside the unit and that must match for obvious reasons the speedo it joins up to.
So you are NOT looking for an FZR speedo drive BUT ANY speedo drive that is not made by Honda.
The only other parameter you worry about is the diameter of your bikes axle, now since japanese makers are smart , I noticed that the speedo bore hole size is all that varies but the bit of metal round it does not.
I.E. you can buy a small speedo drive and bore it out and it will still work !!!!
If you look in my sig links you will find that I have 80's era bikes (which had skimpy 17mm axles ) with heffty new 25mm axles now fitted complete with mechanical speedo drives that work.
I will take alook in my spares box when I go home in about 14 days time and see if I can lay my hands on a spare. , that or i go down to my mates Yamaha scrap yard and go look, send me a PM with the 1K axle diameter and your postal address to take with me as I will be off the grid. so I can send it direct rather than you waiting for me to get back.
PS, what happened to the original drive as they are very hard to break as aunit. What usually goes bust or missing is the drive mechanism washer that connects the wheel to the drive with its fancy ears /lugs.
And those you can make out of thick oversized washers & a file
