R model fork spring length?

Hi guys, got myself another FZR1000 last week and I am just finished refurbishing the forks. I have noticed something a bit odd and i was wondering has anybody here come across the same..
according to the haynes manual for a 1990 R model, the fork spring length is approx 335mm and 535ml of oil, but on my forks the spring length is 525mm. the stantions are 43mm in diameter, so whats confusing me is that either the stantions are from another bike or the haynes manual is wrong.
my measurement are that of the genesis 87/88 model, but the stantions are 41mm in diameter, so there not from them.

I put 425ml of oil in (refering to the genesis forks) and they do seem very soft, also the rebound damping is from 1 to 7 and I have them set at 5 for standard, and according to the haynes manual again the r model has got only 5 markings for the rebound damping on the forks.
do I have a mixture of fork parts??

any ideas guys?

cheers

benny.

I was looking at the yamaha manual I got online and it seems that the 89' R model fork set up has a spacer collar, but mine doesn't. Did this change in 1990 (3LG-2)? Would it be the case that there is a different set of springs and cap bolts on the my forks? Was this ever a known mod?

I might just put more oil in to reach the 3LG-1 model limit and set the damping to notch 3 and see what happens.
gotta get more oil first!

cheers

To the best of my knowledge, the R model didn't have damping adjustment, neither did the early RU model with upsidedownies come to that. Are you refering to the screw at the top of the forks? That is the spring preload adjustment

thanks Ice Queen, sorry, yes thats what I meant, the forks have a bolt type adjuster on the top of the 1990 R model (screw type on the 1989 R model) .
I sorted it last night, got the right amount of oil in and turned it to one notch more and it feels alot stiffer, the springs are progressive ones too. I will give it a test ride as soon as my front pads come. meanwhile I have the carbs to look at and also have to change the air filter too:thumbsup:
