Check to make sure you have the right amount of oil in. On my bike, I changed the oil for the first time, I noticed that the oil light kept coming on from time to time, the gears wouldn't allow to let go if the bike was still (not in motion) when the bike was hot, and minor things to get aggravated with. So I added half a quart of oil more than the manual said, which then took care of all these problems. The grinding, however, sounds like you have a nut loose that holds the clutch plates in place. I have grinding as well when shifting out of neut to first or second, or into nuet. I will be taking care of this soon as well.

What oil are you using? these bikes EAT oil when the valve seals are out of whack...ask me how i know.... was it a synthetic oil or semi? How old are the clutch plates and many miles are on them. Have you been doing anything dumb like launching the bike or clutching wheelies up? the clutch baskets in the 1k are incredibly weak. Billet is the way to go once ya pony up some cash. Install a Factory pro shift kit. its only like 80 or 90 new and it'll only help.
The oil light has to do with where the pick up is in the oil pan and the realation to the sensor. Sometimes the light will come on if theres a bad connection and stay on if its broke. Check that. under hard acceleration the oil light can turn on as the oil is getting pushed to the rear of the sump.
Did anything come out of your oil? metal flakes or anything? If you do an oil change again, buy a new oil pan gasket and take that off, check inside the pick up screen for debris.

Hi,
read the online manual for setting up your oil level to see if that is set right.
FZR's are VERY fussy on oil . As has been said when was the clutch last inspected for notches on the basket clutch nut running loose (new oil is B'sted at doing that if the PO did not torque it right )
