Greetings,

I just picked up a 1993 FZR 1000 in near mint condition from the second owner.
The bike has 34,000 miles on it but it seems real tight and is very clean.

I put 800+ miles on her this past weekend and at about the 650th mile the oil light came on and went off a few times.
It did this pattern of coming on and then going off every 10 miles so I finally pulled over.

The oil level window indicated she was a little low on oil. I put a 1/4 quart of oil in and the light did not come back on for the remaing 100 miles of the trip.

Again, the bike has full service records and is VERY clean. It doesn't smoke or anything like that. It has full power, sounds great, idles smooth and runs out great.

Does this sound like maybe the rings on the pistons are worn and its burning oil?

If so, how much longer should I run her before having the rings replaced?
I hate to do any engine work to a bike that is otherwise running flawless right now.

Thanks,

S

The FZR 1000 is very oil sensitive. I would do an oil & filter change. I race one of my FZRs & it doesnt like synthetic oils at all. Burns it like crazy. I changed to a top shelf Castrol 10w40 mineral oil, & havent had a problem since.
Motol 5100 is good to FZRs as well. I use it in my FZR1000 road bike without a problem. I change oil every 5000 Km, & Oil & filter every 10000 Km. I keep my oil at the top of the window all the time.
Hope this helps..
