Lighter Rims - Aluminum/Magnesium for FZR1000 1989?

Post by madison »

hiya ...

So I'm thinking about putting on some light hoops, either mag or aluminum. I think aluminum is the better/more durable street option, am I right? Also, the weight savings from aluminum to magnesium isn't all that great, right? :-)

So how do I know if a set of aluminum rims will fit my bike? (I don't know what I'm doing.) :headbang:

Thanks!
:-)

Well the stock wheels are aluminum and all the peopl who actually made wheels for these bikes aren't really doing that very much anymore. Teknomagnesio made mag rims for the the 1K back in the day and so did Marchesini. Dymag used to make rims for YZF750 and I think they still do but that would involve and front rear swap to do. Not sure of others who would be making them for our old bikes. Might have to go with a custom set.

The spun aluminum Performance Machine wheels were on a LOT of track FZR1ks (and GSXRs and Ninjas) back in the day.

You can still buy them from PM, but I would imagine that there are plenty of used sets out there in the world.
