dude has a 1990 fzr 1000 for sale on craigslist. clean ca title but the bike needs work. apparently the carbs are leaking/sticking (wants to idle fast). said the bike has been down because of scrapes on the left side fairings but says the frame is cherry. transmission shifts smooth and brakes work... i dunno... i havent seen pics and im not familiar with common problems with the 1000's. this guy lives 1 1/2 hours from me. is it worth scoping out? says he wants $700. what do you guys think?

he really doesnt know a whole lot about the bike since he bought about 20 bikes from some charity or something. if i go take a look at it what should i be aware of/look out for?

Get pics before you make the drive. Albeit bigger that's an older design of the motor. Separate oil cooler. 90 doesn't have USD forks but 91-93 forks are a direct bolt on. Carbs are pretty much identical in design to the 600 but they are 2mm bigger. Hydraulic clutch is stock. R6/R1 calipers are direct bolt on. ALL `1000s (from 89-95) are exup motors and run better with the exup header and servo intact (no they aren't interchangeable with the 600). They use the same oil filter as the 600. A good amount of odd parts are interchangeable between the FZR1000, YZF750, YZF100, 98-01 R1. Anything you've learned dealing with your 600 will translate to the 1000. **Disclaimer** Keep in mind, the 1000 is 518lbs wet and puts 145hp at the output shaft (A LOT more than the 600)- it's as easy to handle as the 600 but can also leave you behind if you don't respect it.
