Picked up a '91 FZR1000 this past weekend. Cosmetically it is in good shape but with a locked up motor. Here are some pics:

I'm probably going to swap the motor from my '95 into it this weekend. Then I'll pull apart the '91 motor and see what the situation is.

I was originally just looking for cosmetic parts for my '95 which is currently naked. However, This one looks too good to scavenge parts from. So, looks like I'm going to be fixing it up instead of the '95 for now.

Haunter, or anyone else? Will the front wheel bearings for the large axle '94/'95 wheels fit the '91 wheels? I swapped the '95 forks onto my '91 bike but in '91 they used a smaller diameter front axle so I had to use the '95 front wheel which doesn't match the back.

From appearances, it looks like I can put new wheel bearings from a '94/'95 front wheel into the '91 wheel and then use the speedo drive from the '95 to mount the '91 wheel on the '95 forks. Sound right?

ETA: BTW, I got the '95 motor put into this bike over the weekend. Runs great.

I think that should work. The wheels are the same otherwise.

Thanks for the response. I picked up some '95 bearings today and will try them in the '91 wheel.

Well, unfortunately the '95 bearings have an outside diameter of 44mm and the '91 bearings have an outside diameter of 40mm. Therefore, you can't just swap the '95 bearings into a '91 wheel to mount the '91 wheel on a large diameter front axle. The '95 and '91 wheels are apparently not the same.

Back to the drawing board. Looks to me like my only options are:
1. rebuild the '91 forks and use them
2. have some bushings made for the '95 forks so the smaller diameter axle can be used
3. repaint the '95 front wheel to match the '91 rear

Without ready access to a machine shop I don't see me doing #2 and matching the paint will probably take longer than rebuilding the '91 forks. So, I guess I'll be rebuilding and reinstalling the '91 forks.

Option 4 - get bearings that match the bearing socket of the '91 wheel and the '95 axle. The '91 uses #6203, the '95 uses #6004 series bearings. Go to the local bearing house (check your yellow pages - or the local NAPA Parts store might have them) and ask for #6204 bearings. Wheel bearings get splashed with water a lot, so you'll want the 'Double rubber seal' version. If all they have is single-seal, install them with the seal out.

Hey congrats on getting the engine swapped. It really does look very good.

I checked with All Balls. The bearings I need are 22mm X 40mm X 12mm. They said nobody makes that size because the wall thickness gets too thin. I also checked Boca online and they don't have them either.

Any suggestions on where I might find them?
