noob questions, sorry for the hassle. im new to chain, had shaft till now. my bike supposedly has a 520 conversion on it, i dont know how to verify this for one. i need to replace chain and sprockets cheaply, any ideas? should i go with 520 or go back to stock?

like i said, im a total newb!

if you have ever seen a 530 chain, you would know if you have a 520 or not. The 520 is quite a bit lighter and skinnier than the 530. if you want to take a measurement of across the chain(link) we can probably tell you what you have. as for cheaply, the 530 is goiong to be less, but for the price difference, the 520 is really worth it.

I have seen the 520 swap done on a 1k but with all the torque that motor makes going with 530 (which is also a conversion on the 1000 since stock is the oddball 532) is a better choice if you ask me. I'm running a 530 setup with STEEL sprockets front and rear on my 1000. I'm for things lasting a very a long time and that setup will last a lot longer than a 520 setup with aluminum sprockets unless your racing the bike. If so, then go with a 520.

Glad to hear it. Stick with the 530 and you'll be fine. And no worry about the newbie questions...we were all newbies once. Ask away.
