'87 Fairings

I bought an '87 1000, but the PO told me that he had replaced the fairing with some 600 model fairing because someone knocked it over in a parking lot. There is a gap between the lower and upper fairings, so I was thinking about replacing the upper. What years fit and where would you look for a replacement?

Thanks,
Derrick

Well, the '87 and '88 had the same fairings. Yamaha changed them a good bit going into '89. You can buy new fiberglass fairing from here - http://www.motorcyclebodywork.com/yamaz/prodyam.htm They aren't that great but it will be a new item. The only other option is eBay as far as I know of.

My advice would be to replace th incorrect fitting FZR 600 bodywork with the correct FZR1000 Genesis bodywork instead of trying to make the 600 stuff work because they aren't actually interchangeable. You can try making a 600 (89-90 & 93-98 or 91-92) upper work but you'll need the complete upper including the fairing and mirror stay brackets (unless you can build your own). Or you can just go crazy and fit R1 bodywork to it...
