I have a 1992 fzr 1000 genesis deltabox combination exup and my forks seem to be froze up they don't go up and down very far my brother and i picked up on the front and dropped it and they freed up a lil bit any advice on what to do or where i can get some for a decent price and is there any adjustment on them. oh and they appear to be inverted kyb forks

First off, welcome to the site. Hopefully you find it useful. My guess would be the forks might be bent, or out of oil, or the seals are dried up. If they aren't bent then they can be rebuilt with fresh oil and new fork seals. If they aren't rebuildable then you might want to give this thread a look over and maybe send a PM to it's creator.

ALL forks are re-buildable it is just that some are a lot more work than others.

Kayaba USD forks are a little trickier to do simple because of the fact they are USD (but far superior in working ability to conventional forks).


FIRST get your self a copy of the STEALERSHIPS workshop manual for the bike NOT HAYNES or CLYMER as they do not give you the whole sey up and first time out you need it ( I used to own a Yamaha Dealership service center (hence my handle on the lists ) so that is the voice of experience !!!!)


Even then take my advice take one fork leg out and work on that first !! that way if you start one week end and continue on the next you are likely to forget what bit goes where ( and there are a lot of bits on multi-adjustable forks) you then use the untouched fork as your re-build guide as a last resort

You have picked a good bike and this if I may say so is the best information center on FZR's any place if I do say so myself.

I do have one request of you :-
When you do this re-build take as many photo's as possible as you work
1} it will help you get it right
2} if you get stuck you can post the picture here showing what the problem is.
3} you can post me the whole job in photo's (with a little write up) so that I can re-write it for the WIKI as I & others have done to help the greater community

well thanks for all your help i'll try to find a kit and do a rebuild as soon as possible until then i guess i'll just enjoy a rigid bike runs awsome has 17,000 miles and i got it for free from my buddy so i love it once again thank you very much for the help

Glad to hear you had an easy task! Maybe you should open a shop "Fork Rebuilds".

That's good to hear. I would love to see a write-up on rebuilding the USD FZR1k forks! Let us know if you need help with it.
