Ok my dad bought a 88 fzr1000 and it turned out it had a 750 engine on it so he bought a 93 1000 engine for it. We got the engine on and he found a wiring harness for it and it came with a cdi box for it but it didnt fit the guy said he thinks its a 90 harness and he just put a cdi box with it. We cant find a cdi box that matches it. The wiring harness fit and worked fine but we need to find a cdi box its one that we cant find and if you can help us out it would be greatly appreciated. The part you plug in the pattern is 2 prongs on the left one in the mittle and 3 on the right so we dont know what to do please help. banghead

Put a pic of the cdi and wiring harness connectors. I know my 94 fzr1000 will not work in my 88 fzr1000 wiring harness. It is due to the exup valve being adapted. I do not know if any of the mid year boxes are different.

If you use the newer exup computer you will need to trick it so it thinks the exup valve is working, or add one. Which would be the best bet concidering the carb and engine are tuned for it.

But if it ran with the 750 motor it should run with the newer engine just don't ever Rev the bike.

The biggest problem with the '94 vs '88 is the "Help I lost my EXUP" function of the later TCIs (*not* CDI - very different system). The '87/88 didn't have one, while the '94 demands that a servo be present or else it won't rev past 4k. I offer a little plug that fools the TCI into thinking the servo is there and functioning.

The other problem with adapting a '94 is the crazy 11-pin connector. I can't help you with that ...

either the loom is a 89-90 and the CDI is a 91 onwards or the other way around..its a later loom and earlier CDI. I believe the EXUP servo connector on the later loom is a squarer profile whereas the earlier 89-90 model the EXUP servo was a round connector

Long story short - we need more info. You described -something- with 2 prongs on the left and three on the right (it's actually 4 and 6); was that on the TCI box, or the harness? The 87-88 and the 89-90 had the same TCI pin pattern; the 89-90 had a wider box and a flying cable for the EXUP plus two leads going elsewhere. The '91+ had the big 11-pin connector for the harness plus a 6-pin rounded-rectangle for the EXUP.

Picture is worth 1000 words. I think we need a couple pictures, or a few thousand words.
