Fzr1000 engine year?

Post by nickmell »

Well I recently bought a 88 (or so the title and frame says) fz1000 in lots of pieces that I have been putting together over the last week. Well Today I got to thinking, and measuring and am not sure what motor I actullay have. The cylinders measure 75.40 (w/calipers) and are stamped 1002cc and the water pipes on the back look more like the 89+ engine. but im not sure if this could have been a cylinder swap or if I have a different year engine. I do have a exup head pipe with it so this makes me think so even more but hopefully someone can say for sure. Image

The barrels are 1000R Exup.1989/90 indicated by the 3GM prefix.
I cannot tell from the pics of the head.
It looks like it has been overpainted black by a P.O.

I do not believe that this top end can be fitted to the 2GH 989cc bottom end.
You fail to show the clutch housing outer casing which is an easy reference point.

This now makes your questions on the TCI availability in another post totally irrelevant. banghead

I'll get pictures of the clutch tomorrow to make sure but that was the conclusion I came to. I guess the pistons and carbs I bought for the genesis are useless now also. I well at least parts are a little easier to find for the exup and Cdis are cheaper. :duh:
