is push starting in 2nd bad?

I just bought a 94 fzr1000 and have read that second gear had some issues. the starter clutch needs to be replaced but im not sure if i wanna dig that deep after reading the Haynes manual. the engine is already out and i have the gaskets and special Yamaha tools, is it worth the work? Or is it going to wear out things prematurely?

Push starting it in second gear wont hurt it at all.
But now that the engine is out and you have the bits.............

Good.
And while your there, pay particular attension to shift forks. change the bearing and seal next too drive sprocket.
And if money allows, hone and rings. and backgrind gear dogs. check valve sealing........does get expensive.
You must check valve clearances before you pull it to pieces. Only takes a few minutes.

Awesome, thanks for the advice. Got her torn apart and checked everything out and shes in good shape. Looks like it had a clutch issue at somepoint because it has a completely new clutch assembly and the inner clutch cover has a mark on it as if something hit it with a bit of force. Looked into it (thanks to this amazing forum) and learned about the issue they have with the outer basket and the small clutch plate. Gonna see about getting a yfz750 outer basket and see if i can get one built. Gonna try and have pics of her on the fzronline fb page once shes completed. Then im painting the fairings in a batman theme.

I used the basket from the YZF750 and mated it to the 1000 ring gear
