My clutch is still doing that weird slippy thing when giving the bike a hand full. (going hard out) It momentarily slips for maybe half a second, then quickly grabs back too normal. Only under near full throttle. Happens very quickly.
Was doing it a while ago so I replaced old frictions and springs (steels were fine and flat) The old springs free length was 49mm. The minimum free length spec is 54mm.
So installed EBC Kevlar clutch kit with 10% stronger springs and inspected the hub inner and outer for grooving or wear and looked good. But I did note in my manual that the EBC spring free length was only 51.5mm long. I cant remember but maybe they were stiffer. I did that a while back and only ridden the bike a few times since then.
My most important question is...Is this clutch slip or could it possibly be something else? Because I cant see how it slips and grabs back so quickly? must be a strong clutch to do that. And the hub and outer looked in great condition.
I have a race in ten days time. Cant ride it like that. If it is clutch slip whats my best fix with limited time? Im thinking order new OEM Yamaha springs and maybe put a washer under each spring, as I will only get one shot at this. The only other thing I can think of is im running spectro semi synthetic oil in it. I have been highly recommended Maxim 4 mineral oil as the best. (from a excellent source)
Could changing from semi syn too mineral oil help?
Need help, Cheers.

Does the label on the Spectro semi synth say "Energy Conserving" in the oil grade circle? If so, you need to replace your oil, your filter, and your friction plates. I'd suggest replacing your springs with OEM while you're in there. Don't worry about the washers; the OEM springs have plenty of clamp (when not sacked out!) to handle anything short of nitrous or turbo.

No it doesn't say energy conserving DonDonTZ125 wrote:Does the label on the Spectro semi synth say "Energy Conserving" in the oil grade circle? Im going to replace the oil(with mineral) filter and springs with OEM springs and clean the frictions with shellite or something.
Cheers.

What do you mean by the steels were fine? We're they just flat, or were they smooth too? I've been told that to save a few bucks you can rough up the steel plates with sand paper for a clutch rebuild or two. That could be your slip if the steel plates are too smooth and aren't catching like they should.

Yep theyre just flat. im gonna dull them off with some 220 paper. No time for bead blasting.Lastmile wrote:What do you mean by the steels were fine? We're they just flat, or were they smooth too? I don't know how rough the plates are new, but I'm thinking 220 might be a little to fine.
