Engine bay
I have recently bought a 1991 fzr 1000.... its a piece... the owner before just threw this thing together. it had radiator hose holding the carbs down, it had a car exhaust on it, it had no air box at all, it would not crank at all, there was no gas coming out gas tank (someone plugged it with a nail), no servo, and many more problems....
anyways after quite a few hundred dollars later, i have the carb boots, an air box, a filer, new wiring job, new gas tank, new thermostat, new fan, and few other things, i got the bike running, it doesnt overheat, but it boggs hard and stalls i believe that has to do with the vacuum line coming out the metal carb boot (far left cyclinder) .... im not sure what that connects to i cant find any pictures of an engine bay to go off of, there is also a white plug unplugged right by the fuel pump im not sure what that is, the servo isnt plugged into anything not sure how i would do that it doesnt have a stock exhaust any help would be appreciated i really need pics of stock engine bays to go off of.. im not to much of a mechanic.. just tired of the money pit and ready for it to be rideable
also no mechanic around my area wants to work on it cause of its age.... great

Re: Engine bay
There shouldn't be a vacuum line coming off the left intake boot. There is a tap there to connect to a carb sync gauge, but it should be plugged in normal service.
Can you put up a pic of this connector and its surroundings?
The servo doesn't need to be hooked up to the valve, but it does need to be plugged into the TCI box, or the TCI will cut the revs at 4k rpm. No, really! If you can't get the servo sorted out (damaged connector, fried servo) I make a little plug-in unit that hooks up to the TCI to keep it happy.

If the servo works when plugged in, just leave it alone.

Re: Engine bay
OK, had a look at them. The white connector with the Green and Brown wires was for a calibrating / bias resistor for the temperature gauge. The white connector by the rad on the left side with the Red and Orange wires is for your 1-4 coil I *think*; the connector doesn't look right, but it's kind of blurry. Is this the connector in question?
I have no idea what that black 3-pin connector is by the battery with the Red and Brown wires. That isn't on the wiring diagram, and I haven't seen anything like it previously. Perhaps a previous owner added some sort of accessory?
If that vacuum hose in your hand goes to the #1 carb, it isn't stock, but is an artifact of some PO. Yes, leaving that open will cause starting issues.

I have that same plug on mine. I have ano idea what it's for either. In the diagram for the 1990 us model, it seems to be wired into the ignition.

I have that same plug as well. A "made for Germany" '90 FZR 1000 with a '93 engine. No idea where it's supposed to hook up.Safo wrote:I have that same plug on mine. 1990 FZR 1000, 1993 engine, terrible state... but improving.

Re: Engine bay
first off sorry it took so long for a reply... two mechanics later the bike is finally running... kind of haha they had to rebuild the carbs and gave me a little more info on the bike.. it has some 2000 model head not sure which still but it bolted up it is a 1000 and the stock 91 1000 block.. well i pulled out and rode about 2 miles down the road and the bike dies.. the battery is completly dead it had great power untill it died.. took the battery to autozone nothing is wrong the battery took 4 hours to get a complete charge.. that all happened today so now i have to find out why the battery isnt charging..
the hose from the carb they capped off
the bike has been completely rewired as well sorry if its hard to understand been running around since 4:30 this morn haha
