New guy needs some help

Post by massivegain »

I recently purchased an 1993 fzr1000 it has been sitting up for about two years and the guy before me didnt know what was wrong with it. So i bought it anyways for 600 bucks and with a new battery and some love i got her to turn over. Thats when i discovered the first problem, the start spins freely sometimes, I still got her to fire and then i heard the second problem. It has a loud knock coming from the motor, so i breakout my stethoscope and narrow down the knock to the clutch basket. so i pulled the clutch basket out and its brand new, there is no broken pieces or wear marks. so i put it back in and it still knocks. so i took the clutch back out and cranked the motor with it not in and the knock went away. so i put another clutch basket in and the knock came back. please help i love the look of the bike and would love to fix it. any help would be greatly welcomed thanks guys

when you say swapped the basket,...did you swap the outer also?? maybe play in primary gearing/bearing or chipped tooth on cogs. it COULD be the clutch is transferring noise from the bottom end but its difficult to say without it being there in front of you
If its not broken it dont need fixing
