Tyre Choice

Post by brentm »

Hello, I race a 1989 FZR1000 here in New Zealand in the Pre89 Class, I use a Dunlop KR108 Slick on the Rear and a Perilli Slick on the Front with Tyre Warmers, I'm going to be changing my Tyres within the next 6wks, My question is what other people use, I do like the Slicks but a lot of people seem to run Brigestone Sportsmax or Metzlers. the other question is I have a Brand New Dunlop KR108 (same as I have on bike now) it's now 5Yrs old, been in the Garage out of sun light and still looks and rubber feels like New, would you still think it would be Ok even tho its 5yrs old un-used? Regards Brent.

dont race mine but always been happy with the Pirellis

I too have a new rear in the garage. Its gotta be 5 years old too. Certainly going to be using it when the rear needs changing. That might be another few years time. Its not been in sunlight or had weight stood on it to create a flat spot so should be OK to use IMHO
If its not broken it dont need fixing

yes i would agree, as long as they still look fresh and not old and cracking and dry i would assume they have life left in them

I've just Metzeler Z6's and I like. I also went for a lower profile front tyre, a 120/60, and with my 155mm bones the bike feels lovely round corners. The front tyre change has lowered the front by about 10mm.
