Japanese import

Hi, love my new 89 1000.
I beleive its a jap import only because (i know naf about these bikes realy) on my rego papers it says it was first registered in japan. Here (New Zealand) that usually means its a jap import. And my frame# is 3GM 002760 and according too the yamy manual NZ models are 3LJ 000XXX. So im fairly certain its a import.
My question is is there any mechanical difference??
It looks the same as other pics, its red white blue, the only difference that i see is has black front guard (instead of white) and small rear guard instead of the massive square one i see in some pics.

The only sure way is to get copies of the parts micro-fiche/ book for each model .

Yamaha was fairly smart re bits inter-changability the difference in "market models" was usually lighting or some engine limiter with regard to the market's street laws ( smog cans for california back in the day was one, french models had yellow lights not white, anti tamper caps on carb jets was another)

not wrong there the 1K+ cc driving permit / license for a motorcycle is the "Holy Grail" in japan for a biker only a certain amount per year are allowed to pass the test if urban myth is anything to go by .

Looks like any other fizzer too me really. cant see in this photo but the tank padding is different too what ive seen, has one single line in middle rather than two lines of padding. Goes good though
