Based on the information I received on another of my topic request's I have become confused as to whether there is a normal FZR 1000, then an FZR 1000R for 1989 and I am curious if this is the case or was there really only models specific to each region they were sold in like Canada, Europe, United states, etc. People have made claims before about vehicles that they were a model that didn't even get produced by the factory but there is always the screamers who can't be wrong no matter how stupid they make themselves look. looking to clarify if an 89' FZR 1000 is an "R" model and if they truly are a one year only bike for the body and it changes again for 90'

Basically for the UK market there were 3 main versions...

The original FZR1000 Genesis
This was produced approx 1985-1988. It has a steel frame and no exup valve as below

next came the FZR1000R
This was produced for 89-90 and was the first version to have the exup valve and had an aluminium frame. the forks were conventional upright items as below

lastly came the FZR1000 RU, produced from 1991 to 1995 but had slight modifications to the fairing and later known as the foxeye model. This version had upside down forks and an extention to the main alumium frame around the front seat area

Hi,
will make the point that there was / is a lag between various market models bearing the same model name.
I know my "92" fzr600 bought here in the UK had a german style headlamp ie one lens but split internally with two main bulbs. My good friend from Trinidad west indies bought an FZR in Canada and shipped it down to the islands to find his lens was the same as mine and neither were "supposed" to exist in their home markets.
The 92 UK bike with a single headlamp lens is a 91 model single headlamp in the states if memory serves.

As to screamers yeh had that happen, trinidad got 2 FZ750s only and the frame was alloy yet according to all the Pundits no such item ever existed in the commercial market. What few people realize is that prototype/ small runs get made and not all go to the crusher they get sold of in small markets
