1989 Oil Light
Hello, Quick question, do the FZR1000 1989 bikes have a Oil Level Sensor instead of a Site Glass, I've purchased a 1989 FZR1000 Racebike and I can't find a site glass but do have a red oil light fitted to the panel, light doesn't glow at all but i'm thinking it runs a Level Sensor that will trigger the light to come on if the oil is low. Would that be correct. Thanks.
Re: 1989 Oil Light
my fzr 1000 1989 uk-spec has both the sight (RHS bottom of the block, forward of the clutch), and an oil pressure sensor (LHS on the undeside of the oil pan). Its that pressure sensor that activates the red-light on the dash.
Re: 1989 Oil Light
The FZR series has an oil LEVEL sensor. It is NOT a pressure sensor. Depending on the oil level in the sump, vigorous riding can cause the light to come on and off as the oil sloshes around. The lamp should come on when the starter button is pushed as a bulb check (it's always annoying when your engine seizes because a $0.30 bulb burned out), but race bikes are notorious for ... ummm ... 'modified' wiring harnesses, so that feature may be bypassed or removed.
You should have a sight glass on the lower right side of the engine; it should be visible through a port in the fairing - unless you have race fairings.

Re: 1989 Oil Light
+1 its a LEVEL sensor not pressure
Re: 1989 Oil Light
Thanks for your answers, how the hell I didn't see the sight glass is a worry Lol, being a race bike now you were correct, the wiring has bypassed the oil level light. Cheers.
