Can someone show me a couple of pictures of the underside of the seat on an 89 as I bought one on e-bay listed for my year of bike but there seems to be some serious fitment issues. Maybe the bike without the seat and then the underside with the latch mechanism. It's really hard to put something together when you never when you didn't take it apart.

Hmm, the one I just received in the mail was a 2GH model number so I guess I have the answer it's the wrong seat for my bike. Well I now have a very nice seat for an 88' FZR 1000 for sale

Rooster;
Pre 89 seats=Genesis models=fits all years of Genesis.
89=1000R=fits that year only
Post 89=RU=fits all later models.
The 3 seats are not interchangeable between models.
Angle/length is different at rear.
Same goes for seat cowls obviously.
Mechanisms may be swapped/altered to fit.
You will find that fine tuning is required to get replacement seat to fit smoothly and unlatch without snagging.
they are "jiggled "to each machine at factory.(slight alteration of each latch and keeper/lug.
Be 100% sure key opens refitted old lock catch fitted to new seat fully, before initial closure.
Stig will never get that back in one bit !!!!!!!
He is too busy continiously doing favours for me.!!!
Very nice pics btw.

Hey mr. Stig I was wondering if you have photo of the tabs on the front underside of the seat where it goes in under the tank, and does anyone know if yamaha produced an seats that had no numbers cast in them at all or are those aftermarket?

Well it looks like thanks to your pictures stig I may have found the right seat for my 89' now I just have to figure out if the latching hardware will work from the 87-88' seat I've got for the 89' seat. I am very happy that I may have a place for my rear this spring.

Seat came in the mail and thank goodness for E-bay and second hand parts companies it is the right seat this time and I'm happy, it only cost about the same as the other one within a dollar so even though I bought the wrong one first it has the hardware and once stripped its on to E-bay for it. Thanks again stig for the photo's !
