FZR1000 forks on FZ1000?

Post by MotoRestoration »

Hey guys, I have a 2001 FZ1000 that I'd love to make feel a bit more like an FZR. I also have a 1992 FZR 1000 that I may be using for parts for other projects.
Has anyone ever tried swapping out the front forks and clamps on an FZ for those from an FZR? Any known issues or size differences? I've searched and not found much of anything on the subject.
Thanks for any/all help.

I doubt the stems are the same but stem swap could correct that although the steering stops may be different. I'm just guessing as i have neither bike to do comparisons. You'd be better off swapping an R1 front on it. The USD FZR 1k forks only have preload adjustments where as the later r1/r6 will have more adjustments to help fine tune the ride better. Or you could upgrade your springs with, for example, racetechs (http://www.racetech.com/) with emulators to achieve similar.
