Hi all, i am new to the forum having just joined recently, my location is Republic of Ireland
and i have just recently bought a 1990 Yamaha FZR 1000 EXUP and it needs a bit
of work but it's all complete except for the electric petrol resevoir switch. It does however
need to have the carbs rebuilt and the carb to engine intake rubbers replaced so as to get it running
and evaluate the engine. My question is this, the frame vin number starts with 3GM****** a nine digit
number and the engine number starts with 3LG******. Should the engine number start with 3GM the same
as the frame or is what i have correct. I am just wondering about this so that when it comes to ordering
parts i will be able to order correctly. If anybody shed any light on this i would greatly appreciate it.

Many Thanks

John

manual says that if your frame number starts with 3GM-007101 then it is from country 'E'...which might be Eire/ireland, the engine however is from a GB bike, so according to the manual its a UK engine in an 'E' frame.

no big deal, check the manual/microfiche for any possible conflicts, but in my experience these are usually cosmetic differences, the engines are usually all the same place-to-place.

your V5 document only covers the frame so as long as those numbers match you should be fine. not uncommon to find different engines in different frames on old bikes, is there any crash damage/signs of racing? that could explain away a different engine.

its possible the engines been swapped. It'll be exactly the same as long as its a paper filament oil filter annd not the later spin on type

Thanks for the prompt replies lads, the bike is 1990 but according to the registration
it was only registered in Ireland in 1996 so it came from somewhere else most likely
the UK but i can't be certain of that so it's possible the the E in the manual may mean
Europe, but i am only guessing on that. Is there a way of checking with the DVLA as to whether
it was originally a UK bike? Thanks again for the info.

E is certainly Europe as is the prefix 3GM according to the Gen Yam Workshop manual

the UK code is 3LG
