...needs a bit of love, will buy it from a friend in installments then i will get the bike. Will post a pic up here in a bit, oh and hi!

i currently ride a zxr 400 l4 as my daily commuter bike...i do like my 90's bikes, the fazer will be a 89 G-reg...and this is after i promised myself not to buy another carb'd bike :D

its gonna cost me £400 for the bike, which is a bit of a bargain as i can do all of the mechanical work myself - plus my friend im buying it off works in a waterjet workshop with every kind of machine you could want :D so i can get anything i want machined :D

will be nice to have something i can work on that doesnt need to be ready for the morning to get me to work :D

I picked one up in boxes that had been apart for 10 years so it sounds like your project will be a far cry easier to be on the road. Have fun with the re-furbishing

have a handshake-contract, £100 when i get paid, the rest in mid-october, bike delivered to me for free, the only extras are 4-cans of beer in exchange for the service and haynes manuals :D

im looking forward to getting into the engine, there is a shot-peening/abrasives place literally around the corner from me, so the whole engine will be going there to have the external metal cleaned and exposed ready for a (probable) paint-up. i will also look at getting the crank balanced and probably knife-edged/superfinished at the same time, dont know about lightening it, will have to see if it will cope with a few grammes taken off here and there...

it will be a full top and bottom end clean and rebuild, all new seals and gaskets, i want the engine in brand-new condition before it goes in the bike, im pretty sure i will street-fighter it...cheaper to do that than to get all the fairings resprayed with a 4-5 colour paint-job.

im also looking at a 520-pitch conversion, as there is more choice of sprockets, plus a bit lighter than original, with a 180/55 17" rear tyre and sprockets front-1 rear+1 i will lose about 10% of the top speed (but it should still hit almost 160mph) but it will be mental in the first 3 gears...like it should be.

am just looking forward to getting stuck in, my zxr400 is a sweet handling bike, it will be nice to finally work on something that i can leave in peices for a month at a time because i dont need it to get to work.

My ZXR 400 L4 (1994) with +41,500 miles on the clock and 12 previous owners:-

nice, bikes in boxes are always fun :D

im expecting it to take 8-12 months to finish...if it is on the road for the summertime i will be pleased. depends on how much time i can put into it over winter.

looks like you keep your bikes really clean and I am looking forward to the final result of your efforts, and I am going to name my bike build "bike in a box." hopefully I can have it out of the shop by spring and then see about the full restoration the next winter, this winter I am hoping to reassemble the engine put it back in the frame and run it for the "summer' here (approximately 4 months of riding time if there isn't too much bad weather).

i have a rad, its a complete bike...just in bits at the moment.

once i get it sparking it will be in even more pieces :D gonna refresh the loom (new connectors packed with dielectric grease), chop off some bits (kill switch, side stand switch etc...) and trim those wires back. Once i get everything repositioned where i want it the loom will get fully stripped back, re-wired and re-heatshielded/wrapped etc...them wires have mass you know :D

i can get cerain hard-to-find chemicals in my job so im gonna be getting my frame and wheels powdercoated for free :D looking at matt black frame and swingarm, with matt black wheels and orange pinstripe then some coats of laquer to give it some longevity.
