Re: 1988 project
Thanks for the parts offer, but i guess shipment to germany would be f***ing expensive, and here in germany there's a good cooperative fzr-community which offers more than enough spareparts for low prices
Just getting a complete Fairing in original design might become a bit difficult due to its rareness
Btw.: The master cylinders form an FZR 600 3HE/3HH or an FZR 400 1WG/3BF will also do their job there if needed...and the frontbrakes of a 1990s 3BF are oviously identical to the 2LA (had changed the frontbrakes of my 3BF against a set from a 2LA just before getting it back on the road due to a low-cost offer instead of refurbishing the originals and they are using the same brakepad, have same measurements and same optics, so i guess they are the same (partnumber from the spareparts-catalogue is the same as from a FJ 1200)...so if they are not easily refurbishable (calipers too rusty to polish them or some similar issues) its no problem to get spare ones on the market
For my cheap 2LA ( 400€ in 4 rates) it will be a lot of cleaning to be done, repainting as thats a really bad colorshape (at least in my opinion)exchanging a few parts(like changing the 1 inch diameter drag bar to a already in my sparpart-boxes available 22mm diameter m-bar, adding the instruments+signallights), checking the wireloom and redo some connections there properly, waiting for the parts from the german community to arrive here and mount them to the bike and then at first getting it reactivated again...everything else would be done for stage 2,not for stage 1 of the refreshment

Re: 1988 project
It's alive...
Started her up for first time. Engine is barely noticeable, runs smooth and quiet. Carbs are borrowed from my other bike but settings are off at the moment because I still don't have a muffler on the bike.
All in all good news.
Clutch and front brake master cylinder need a rebuild. I cleaned everything and all looked good but still no good. Parts are on their way.
Next will be headlight, front sprocket and chain. Since the throttle cables are runnIng across, I may not be able to have the headlight as close to the frame as I had hoped.
Need to play around a bit

Computer attachment.
Bar across and attached to handlebars.

Re: 1988 project
For whatever reason, I could not make the original master cylinders work, even with rebuild kits. Super strange.
Found replacements, now mounted as well as computer (still needs to be wired up)
Headlight. Wiring and cables still need a cleanup when done

Re: 1988 project
Couldn't figure out why clutch lever was funny and I could throw in gears as if there was no clutch.
Well, literall, there was no clutch..
Good thing I had the old engine so I just swapped everything. Waiting for new gasket now.

Re: 1988 project
Began work on tail section.
Seat will be modified a bit to go with the flow of the pieces I am going to weld on. (2nd pic). Nice thing is that I can keep the battery box for now. Just need to figure out where to put all the wiring without cutting.

Re: 1988 project
Still need to clean up wiring. Not my favorite job.
There will be a hoop to finish off the tail section and serve as a butt stop so I can feel where the seat ends. Seating position is good, it's not shorter than the original seat with the seat cowl installed.
Seat is not sitting right in pic because of the wiring underneath.

Re: 1988 project
Moving wiring inside the frame..
Looks like I am selling my 750. This will give me the finances to buy a smaller lithium battery to get rid of the big battery box.
Tail welded some more..

Going to work on her tomorrow and see what i can find. Good luck with your continuing build. Also information on your fork fixings would be appreciated since my right fork is leaking as well. Cant wait to see how your girl turns out.
Re: 1988 project
Started fiber glass work on tail section
A new and tiny lithium battery is on its way. Yay

Battery arrived. Yay!!!
Had this one before, but it always amazes me how small and light it is

Re: 1988 project
Some more fiber glass work done and first rough cut.
Of course I messed up a tiny bit and fiberglassed on the tail frame and forgot to have a piece run down to cover rear shock. You'll see in pic. Need to add that
Still need to close the part above the seat, add a piece to run down to cover the shock and make a battery tray. Slowly getting there, but cold temperatures don't help in the curing process

Re: 1988 project
Will drop off bike on Tuesday to get seat covered and chain put on while it's there.
Looking at the pics, I am debating whether I should cover the sides with mesh or not. Probably makes sense to hide battery and wiring.

Re: 1988 project
Finished fiberglass work. Here some pics.also had to mod the seat pan to prepare it for upholstery. One thing left for now is wiring to connect to ecu is too short.
Bike as it stand at the moment
Seat mod
Battery tray and fender before cleanup/finishing cuts
Still need to build license plate holder to go on side of swingarm
Hoping to drop bike off today or tomorrow (seat, chain, exhaust welding).
Then lights (front and rear), coolant reservoir relocation and some wiring (relocating and hooking up new ignition switch, the trail tech computer).
A new headlight is on its way as well. Not sure I like the current one. Ordered a trail tech x2, let's see how that works.
Bike should be rideable right now (after chain and exhaust), I am hoping to take it for a first spin soon. On the stand, it shifted through all gears without issues.
There appears to be a leak around the oil filter which I need to look into as well. Possible the seal is no good.

Chain is on
So is the exhaust
New headlight came in and I am loving it. Only threw it on to check out the looks, it will be lower when fitted properly. It's a trail tech x2.
