Re: Header compatability
What's the heat expansion like with that bronze it must be quit tight tolerances machining them for a bush especially one in a hot environment like the exhaust. Have you got them up on eBay could be a decent amount of interest on them
Re: Header compatability
Phoz bronze is good in high temp environments. I reamed out to 10mm which seams to give suitable clearance without issues when things warm up to operating temp
I've not yet made any for others or for sale. Lack of spare time is the main issue at present

Re: Header compatability
That's good they should last a lifetime.
It's a good idea man I haven't seen any whilst searching for parts and stuff.

Re: Header compatability
My 98 R1 headers arrived they looked amazingly clean too good to be true and it was the valve was siezed solid so much to the wife's amusement I had them on the gas hob heating and cooling the buggers. I eventually got it out and done the 4mm hack and tried to fit it to my exhaust only to find out it had 3 heli-coils in it... Long story short I know have 3 8mm bolts holding it in.
So the valve is all greased and looking good after a shot with the wire brush drill only to find out it was stiff as fook turns out the valve was bent so had to get a sheet of glass and roll it round looking for gaps of light shining through any gaps on the pins after about an hour of micro adjustment in the vice with a socket extension I got it perfect the valve drops right back to the closed position if I let it go.
Tomorrows job is fitting the exhaust back on the bike and hooking the cables up to the servo
Also for anyone that is going to use the 1998 R1 valve and bushes the bush that sits in the exhaust is too big I had to fit the valve without the spacer, I don't think it's going to effect it very much as long as I keep on top of maintaining it.

Re: Header compatability
I run the valves between two centres in the lathe and turn it by hand. I then use a dial guage to check alignment and adjust accordingly
As long as there's a bush in the far end of the valve chamber that supports that end, then it doesn't matter too much about the bush length. If the bush is short it may just rattle slightly if loose. It won't affect the valve as that's secured to the face plate side by the spring and pulley wheel

Re: Header compatability
Why didn't I think of that!! I could of just chucked it in the jocobs chuck in my wood turning lathe, oh well it's done now.
