Starter Help

Post by shadowspawn »

Need some help....
I have a 1994 1000
When I try to start the bike cold it sounds like rattleing or grinding and have to make many attempts before it will fire up. Once the bike is warmed up it will fire right up no problems.
First thought is the starter gear may be worn, but want to make sure before I start tearing into the bike.
Any thoughts what I should be checking first?
Thanks!!!!

First thing to check is your valve clearances - hard starting while cold is a classic symptom of a problem these bikes are prone to.

So it's the starter clutch; no good.......
Thinking of parting it out. I posted in the for sale section if anyone is interested in parts let me know.
