Post by jnasty97 »

well while riding home last night on my 1990 fzr 1000. it took a crap on me all the lights went out and power as well. and when she did start back up she backfired. and then would shut off again.while pushing her back home the lights and gauges would come on and as soon as i hit the start she would shut off or startup and soon die once in gear. i did smell plastic burning breifly .as well as gas.. when i went to check her out this morning there was no juice what so ever no sign of life email me if you can justensbiz@yahoo

check the main fuse behind the left seat side panel first and then work your way from the battery so see how far power goes
If its not broken it dont need fixing

as said, follow the power

check terminals on ignition switch as they're problematic, check kill switch, side stand switch. Is there power to the ignition...does the starter fire if you bypass the ignition?

need loads more info to be able to advise. Work through it methodically
If its not broken it dont need fixing

Wires fry for a reason, and rarely a good one. Were they simply loose, and overheated that way? Check the main fuse - is it a 30A? Check the voltage across the battery at 5000rpm - is it higher than 14.5vdc? Replacing $0.30 worth of wire may put your $$$ ignitor box at risk, if the operating conditions are dangerously wrong!
