94 FZR 1000 Will not start

Post by tobynewton »

I just bought this bike and have never owned a Yamaha I have always had Kawasakis but heard lots of good things about this bike. When I try to start it using the start switch the gas light comes on and it does not turn over, however, if I bypass the switch and stick a screwdriver on the stater solenoid then it turns over. And when the kill switch is in the off position it buzzes. Need some advice on what to do.

PS The person that had it before me messed with the wiring.

If its not broken it dont need fixing

That's not good... Get out the wiring diagram (see the Wiki) and start tracing wires.

Ok so I have bought A new wire harness and installed and now I have a plug towards the end of the harness that i do not know where it plugs to. The wires are red and brown with a blue stripe I have looked and looked and can not find were this plug goes. Image it is the small black plug that is in question

If you get your new harness in and it still does not start, make sure to check your neutral switch ground and/or clutch switch ground continuity. I recently had that experience, though on a different bike. Replaced several things before I checked the ground. Simultaneously had the clutch and neutral get bad ground at the exact same time. Just one of those really weird occurrences.
