Not sure if this has been discussed before, but here goes. New to the forum but owner of a 92 FZR1000 for a few years. about 3000 original miles. But hate the crappy OEM fork.
I did a bunch of research and measurements. I'm about to start a 06/07 GSXR750 front end swap. steerer length is almost identical. Fork leg length is less than 1/2 inch shorter than the OEM fork. Should be OK, since I'm riding right now with the rear end raised an inch. Lower bearing measurements are near identical. Getting custom upper steering bearings made and should be here any day now. After that, it should be a simple "drop in". will keep you all updated.

Re: 92 FZR1000 Fork swap
So finally got the bearings in. The top looks like an allballs bearing set machined down to fit the top tube. Atleast the packaging it came in had the same type of label and marking as the lower bearings that were ordered separately online.
Now just waiting on the actual fork to come in. In the usual obsessive/compulsive manner, I'll be rebuilding them first. But should be able to test the triple clamp fit while that's happening.

Re: 92 FZR1000 Fork swap
OK, so I had a few minutes and did some measurements. I'm hoping work will ease up by the end of next week and I can finally get some time into this.
I rebuilt the GSXR forks since I'm going to use them on my other project if this doesn't work out. took measurements, roughly of the FZR head tube / stack height and the GSXR fork steerer and stack height.
Looks like I'm 1/4 inch shorter on the GSXR. But If I use the GSXR top dust cap it may gain me back the 1/4 inch since the FXR top cap is pretty thick. Soon to see!
Now all I have to do is get the time to strip off the bodywork, jack up the bike, remove the front end and trial every thing.

looking good so far mate, it will be interesting how it turns out. Anyone done any other fork swaps?
Re: 92 FZR1000 Fork swap
Well considering its been a few months either the swap went well or it was a train wreck, either way give us an update so we know what we should or should not do.

Re: 92 FZR1000 Fork swap
Hi all.
sorry about the HUGE delay. So the whole fork swap project has been on a (over) year hiatus. Ended up buying a house right after I started the project. has a 6 car garage so maybe I bought the garage and got a house as bonus... The house was a fixer so all new wiring, plumbing, walls, kitchen. Now ready to get back to the bike. Oddly enough, I didn't really lose any of the bits that were in boxes from my FZR. Sadly, haven't ridden it in almost 2 years now.
Anyway, I finally got my work space set up. The trial fit of the Gixxer fork proved to be too short as suspected. couldn't make up that without leaving out a lock nut or two.
So next step, I have my hydraulic press ready to press out the stem on the Gixxer triple and slide in a FZR stem from a spare triple. the bottom of the stem seems to caliper out to be pretty close to the Gixxer. Same lower bearings and height of the press fit interface seems the same.
I probably know the answer to this already but gotta ask.
The FZR is a heavy bike. The gixxer probably more than 100lbs less. The triple on the FZR is HEAVY too. Any reason to think the upper and lower clamps from the Gixxer wouldn't be able to handle the forces/load of the FZR?

Re: 92 FZR1000 Fork swap
Only a two year hiatus from riding?. I think I have you beat. I have not been on a bike in five years. Before that I rode for 16 years straight rain or shine. What got in the way you may ask? Well between almost getting T-boned five years ago, a divorce, and having to put all of my bike projects away (4 in total )and having to move into a 1bed condo it kind of puts a damper on things. But definitely sounds like when a six car garage you will be back to wrenching in no time.., on the bike that is. I am always drawn to fork swap threads as I was going to fit a 97 gizxer 750 complete front end on a 90's GS 500. Of course it's still an unfinished project.
