My bike still runs but has a knocking sound.
Mechanic said it's the rod knocking.
Min. Work would be $2500 to $3000
"Do it Right" would be $3500 to $4000
I understand if you pay someone labor to crack the case it would be best to replace everything, however;
Can I not just replace the ROD and piston and call it a day?
I'd rather fix whats broken for under $2000 than junk the bike.
I'm definitely not going to spend $4000 on an engine for a 20 year old bike.
The sad part is this bike is in EXCELLENT shape and most people think it is a new model. (Those who don't ride that is)
I haven't been able to find a used engine.

Thunderace engine is a fit without too much hassle...just the top engine mount only has 1 whereas the FZR has 2. Could always swap the head over plus the ACE engine has a lighter crank which revs faster and forged pistons
