seal guard/chain slider

Any of you guys ever replace this part or modify the underside of the swing arm to afford enough clearance to prevent the chain from chattering against underside of swing arm? This is on a 92' fzr 1000D. It seems that 1/8" or so depression would inhibit chain contact. Seems dealer wants around 170 greenbacks for this part. Any feedback is appreciated.
