2nd gear slip

Post by Soaringman »

I was on this forum a couple of years ago
When I had an 89.
Traded that for a dual sport.
I recently bought an 87 for $800, came In pieces
Also came with a decal kit. An a ton of reciets,
It's been taken care of and runs very well.
So after painting and bondo etc all the fairings
I thought I should take it for a ride before putting them on.
Well you guessed it , it was a second gear slip.
Any ideas?
What would the labour cost be in replacing second gear?
I'm a little disappointed right now

second gear "slip" ??

As in, revs rise but speed doesn't increase?

Or goes "clunk!" or "bang!" out of second gear?

If it is the first, you probably just have a clutch issue

And if its the second then its about $250.00 to rebuild.

I'm ordering some parts and just wanted to make sure.
The 87 and the 88 have the same engine right?
Thanks
