110 links is standard, 108 viable?

I was installing a new chain today, bought a 120 and only needed 110 links. Ok, I've read it's easy to just grind off the end of one of the rivets and punch it through the other side and get the length you need.

Well, I ground down a LITTLE (half a mm?) too far. I nicked the cylinder that goes through the inner link that the rivet goes through with my grinder.

Is there any chance I could get away with 108 links? Seems like it would just barely shorten the wheelbase and I'd move the rear tire forward a bit and be fine.

I have standard size sprockets. (16/47), it seems like there's about 3/4" to go forward from where the wheel was before.

I think I'd be fine with the chain at 110 and the little nick, but I'd rather be 100% than oh, a little ding in the side of the inner part of the chain thing.

If it fits, it fits. Just make sure that you have the proper amount of slack.

If its too tight you'll know right away. Only way to know is to try it. Be prepared to order another chain just in case

Or a smaller front or rear sprocket depends on what you want top end or acceleration

could you not just pop out the cut one and get one from the spare 10? you should be able to open up the two side plates enough where you cut it to drop it out and the spare you can just take bothh pins out and get at it that way?

So I was going to just make an extra link out of the 10 like taggy mentioned.

After test fitting with everything and 108 links I had just over enough slack for proper tension and I just tightened it all up with a few less links.

So for those wondering, it is viable with stock gearing. Any larger and you'd be SOL.
