I was riding along yesterday and about 100mi into the ride I noticed my tachometer was at 0.
I pulled over to shut the bike off hoping maybe it was some small thing and turning it off and on again would work.
Well, it didnt, and while stopped I noticed my neutral light and blinkers stopped working, though my high beam indicator light still worked.
I thought that might mean a common ground was shorting or something.
On the ride back home I found something even weirder. My neutral/blinkers and tach would all work again if I hit the brake, front or back, so Im assuming it has something to do with the tail light being on.
On a side note but maybe related, my tail light has been burnt out for a while, after about a week both bulbs burn out for the 'always on' state and only light up when the brake is engaged. I stopped replacing bulbs because it was happening weekly/bimonthly.
Any electrical guru's out there have any idea where I should be testing to sort this out? Not having a tach isnt very fun.

Re: Tach Dead (electrical issue)
Yeah, test the voltage across the battery terminals at 5000 rpm, as there is a very good chance your VRR has fried and is killing your electrical system. Anything over 15.3 vdc means you need to upgrade NOW.

Re: Tach Dead (electrical issue)
+5 on that, plus here in the Windies with rough terrain (err roads) filament style tail bulbs etc get replaced with LED equivalents (will only burn out if your VR is duff)

Re: Tach Dead (electrical issue)
Just checked the voltage. 14.5 @ 5k. Still VR if it's lower?
I also checked my tail lights and apparently they werent secure in the housing when I installed them last. They're both laying under the seat shattered to hell. Filiments are all broken and whatnot, might have something to do with it. Im going to replace the bulbs today after work and see if that doesn't help at all. I feel like such a noob when it comes to this electrical stuff.

Re: Tach Dead (electrical issue)
14.5v is fine. Check your signal fuse; things were working by your tale, but it's been abused...

Re: Tach Dead (electrical issue)
Ugh, I feel so stupid. It was the fuse, everything is fine now.
I just jumped to odd conclusions and thought it was something complex once the brake lever made everything work again.
Anyway, thank you for your help
