buying 92 RU what should I watch out for?

Post by FZRJoe »

Hi

Going to view a 1991 RU at the weekend, mileage not to high (or low) bike looks in reasonable condition from the pictures I've seen, with the owner admitting that paint work isn't perfect but that the plastics are intact just the finish is fading a little. 20 years old, only to be expected. No service history but several MOT certificates to check against the milage.

What to look out for apart from the usual leaking shocks/ fork seals etc

Any help apreciated

Thanks in advance

Not a lot really, oil consumption can be a problem, brakes binding a little due to crud under caliper seals and exup valve, cables and motor. Flipper has a 91 RU and really has no problems at all. Where in UK are you?

FJ,
better put that in your personal profile, now we know where you are we can be more detailed in any responses since FZR models vary across the world.

As to your original question I figured you had answered your own question and you were fairly clued up as far as buying a second hand bike. The 1K had no particular quirks unlike the early 600's with their naff Volt Reg.
