I'm hoping someone can help me with a issue. I purchased a 1993 FZR1000 with 17,000 miles on it. I completely tore it down for rebuild as it was once a salvage bike.
I dis-assembled the carbs as the bike hadn't ran in quite sometime. I replaced almost every gasket I could find in the 4 carbs. When I re-assembled the carbs and bike, upon startup, fuel poured out the overflows. I figured the fuel pump regulator was bad as most older fuel pump regulators crap out after time, so I placed an inline pressure regulator in the system....to no avail.
Next I figured there was a stuck float, so I removed the bowls and manually closed each float with the pump on, and each shut off the fuel flow, but fuel still came out the overflows between the carbs. I am tempted to remove the fuel pump for a standard electric version, but was hoping to keep the Yamaha one there if possible.
Any suggestions as to how I fix the fuel coming from the overflows?
Thanks,
Lingle

did you manually close ALL the floats down ? if not one of the others was letting it past.
Did you set the float heights correctly check the WIKI for the how to

did you try to blow into the fuel inlet of the carbs and see it there actually shutting off
ones life is the way it is only because you allow it make it happen.

I have no knowledge of the 1k carbs.
I do know the 600 carbs have a rubber o-ring seal 13mm diameter (approx) that seals the float holder to the carb body. If the 1k has a similar o-ring, it's possible that is the cause of the leak.
My 600 was leaking fuel out of one of the overflows, the culprit was the mentioned o-ring.

As yamaha_george said, there are pretty big chances to have the wrong float heights set. it happened to me when i tried to start a '92 1000. I set the floats to 14 mm (i hope i remember correctly) then it was running like a champ.

And if setting the float height doesn't do it, your float needles are in-need of replacement most-likely. You should be able to see which carb(s) is/are leaking by the overflow tube puking gas.

How you do that?.Yamaha service manual does not say how to set the floats level at 14mm but only how to check the fuel level.trifgeorge wrote:As yamaha_george said, there are pretty big chances to have the wrong float heights set. it happened to me when i tried to start a '92 1000.
