Genesis and EXUP refer to different parts of the bike. The engine is termed Genesis I believe mainly in reference to the overall design and angle of the cylinder banks. This was also the beginnings of modern R1 engine. Theyre not the same for sure, but the FZR paved the way for the Yamahas later bikes.

The EXUP is a valve in the exhaust that closes and creates more backpressure at low RPM and is supposed to help with low end power and emissions I think.

GENESIS was the name given to the more compact new breed of Yamaha engine, designed to fit INSIDE the new style perimeter box frame (DELTABOX as it looks like the letter D from above) and EXUP was an electronicly controlled exhaust power management system developed from the old two stroke YPVS system for better power delivery.

Not all GENESIS engines had EXUP but was according to the market place from what I have observed.

FZR 1000 Genesis (often referred to as "Gennys") was 87-88. FZR 100 EXUP was 89-95. Totally different bikes. The only thing(s) the engines had in common was the 5 valve head design, the CC displacement, and the alternator. The EXUP bikes had the EXUP valve in the header. Pre 89 bikes did not have EXUP.

So can my 94 be a genesis?

Technically yes. All the YZF/FZR sport bikes can be referred as that because that was what Yamaha called the engines BUT calling an 89+ FZR1000 a Genesis will confuse people who know the bikes. I would suggest just referring to your bike as an Exup. That's what I call my 94 FZR...see my sig?

Nope. 600 is too small. Most of the body panels (including the tank) are interchangeable between 89 and 95. The twin fox eye head light style are 94 and 95. Single headlight are 91-93 models. The 89-90 are twin round headlight and the frame is a little different. 91-95 are completely interchangeable and use the same frame. 89-90 upper can be put on but will need the correct mirror and fairing stays.

Genesis was a popular pop music group in the ´80 - '90. They had many big selling albums in ther time. The lead singer was short,no hair(or very litle),and was a litle chubby. Had nothing to do with the development of Yamaha bikes.

Not many people know that there was a vacum cleaner in the first starwars film that was caled EXUP. It was later cut out of the final edision, and therfore never made it to the big screen.

Why Yamaha chose to use cheesy names for there bikes is a mistery.
