How good is the battery? These bikes are quite picky about that battery and it NEEDS to be fully charged. I'd also check the spark plugs. Make sure they are good. The ignition coils? Are they in good shape?

Is this a new problem? ...did it run/start but now it won't?

was this a non-running bike that sat for a while/week/month/year/years?

is the fuel fresh?

I have a 94 as well, and I would put money on the fact that it is the battery. Try this, put a charger on it at 2amps and try and start it. If it start with the charger on it, it is the battery. I had the same problem. Once I put a new juice pack in it, the problem was gone.

The 1000 has to turn over fast to start.
Its a big engine and a small battery.
Mine does the same thing if the battery isnt full.

Try jumping it from car

Did you ever figure out this issue?
The polite thing to do would be to post the final resove to this issue so other (like me) could learn something if we have the same issue.

I can tell you that my 1993 FZR 1000 did the same thing this last weekend.
I was out of town and the temperature dropped from 75 F degrees to the 50's and my bike would not start.
I thought applying the choke would help. It did not. I actually had to open my bike up full throttle to get it to start.
This ocurred on two occasions this last weekend. Very odd...
