i have a FZR1000 genesis 87 model and would like to fit a 17" rear wheel, i've seen alot of people put exup swing arms on to get 180x17 rear tyre. i would like to fit a wheel that will take 160x17 tyre.
anyone out there who can tell me which rear wheel will be the best for this with least amount of engineering i would be very greatful

Re: 17" rear wheel
Well if you're going about this easiest to do will be to swap in an EXUP 1000 17x 5.5. I haven not done the swap myself since I already have an EXUP 1000 but the 87 Genesis 1000 has a total overall width including spacers and caliper hanger of 250mm. Using the Exup wheel as an example, with all inclusions that wheel is 260mm and runs a 20 mm spindle as opposed to the 87's 17mm. Removing 5mm from each side (10mm overall) and inserting a sleeve over the stock axle to compensate for the bore difference should allow it to fit. It is suggested the Exup caliper hanger should be used to make it all easier to fit, chain alignment in not an issue either as the hubs are the same.
Hope that helps.
Hope that helps.

Re: 17" rear wheel
thats all good and i already now that but isn't the EXUP 1000 17x 5.5 to fit a 180x17 tyre i want to fit the smaller 160x17 tyre which i believe to be 17 x 4.5 wheel
Re: 17" rear wheel
Yep, EXUP 1000 is a 17x 5.5 comes stock with a 170 although most run a 180. 17x5.0 should be a 160. YZF600 Thundercat and FoxEye FZR600R's had that size size wheel. A good amount of Suzukis had the 4.5x17 Ranging from the Bandit 600 to the older GSXRs.nath71 wrote:thats all good and i already now that but isn't the EXUP 1000 17x 5.5 to fit a 180x17 tyre i want to fit the smaller 160x17 tyre which i believe to be 17 x 4.5 wheel

Re: 17" rear wheel
Sweekster does it again !! He knows all...
Click the link below, its for an FJ but the concept is the same...machining the hub is required so its sits inside the wheel....

I appreciate the vote of confidence but it's really from spending too much time on forums

Re: 17" rear wheel
TZR wheel is 17 by 4.5 and will take 160 tyre.Warning though they are a fairly light wheel for a thousand.
180 rubber is same price to buy and still turns in nice.It also gives your fairings better ground clearance.
Sometimes required
