Hi all,
got a big dent in my tank and decided to cover it and make a mod out of it at the same time. Bought a leaky tank from ebay and set about cutting it up.
I have managed to make 2 side panels that will cover the bashed bit.sh.
going to bond the panels on with tiger seal, not used it before but how hard can it be....
I am hoping for a 3d flame effect and once its been bonded, filled and painted i think it should look ok.
any hints tips comments will be appreciated.

If you spend the time cutting a tank, why not open the original & panel beat out the dent. I am no sheet metal worker but a little (and I mean very little bondo goes along way.
See:-

That tank had 3 great slashes in the top from a Matchette (long story) and you can see from the various shots that the paint is perfect.

You can see for your self how well that turned out, the only difference was the final prep &paint was done by a pal not me.

Hi George,
It's good advice bud but then my tank will look "stock" and not custom. I'm a joiner by trade but fancy having a go at metalwork to see what I can create. If it all goes pete tong its an option to put it right tho...
cheers,
Mac.

Hi George,
i hope you mean interesting in a good way??
Sikaflex (also Tiger seal) is black gunk in a cartridge that is used for sticking on windscreens, bodykits, spoilers and such like. Its really good stuff, a bit like silicone only a hell of a lot stronger. I believe its tensile strength is about 800lbs/inch2 so I reckon my panels wont fall off when i am riding along at the national speed limit!!!.
will keep the pics coming...

After checking other lists the concesus was that if you use it then do not letany get where there is to be paint as it seems to be so flexible as to crack any paint put on it.
YMMV as there seems to be about a dozen different types / numbers after the trade name
